Divorce
Dissolving a marriage is never an easy decision. Not only do you need to think about ending your marriage and what is best for you, it is important to also consider how your decision affects your entire family. A variety of issues impact your divorce, including finances, where you will live, and your children. Michele Cline understands how difficult the divorce process can be, both practically and emotionally, and she works with each client individually to determine the best way he or she can address their goals during this difficult process of ending their marriage.
Parental Responsibilities
You have many things to consider when faced with divorce or ending a relationship, but nothing is more important than your children. As a parent, your first priority must be to protect your children and do what is in your children’s best interests. Unfortunately, no matter what you do, your children are affected by the end of your marriage or relationship. Your job is to make the transition as easy as possible for them. You need an experienced family law attorney who can help you achieve this.
Child Support
Child support is one of the most contentious issues to arise during a divorce or separation. The Colorado child support statute is complex and confusing and is based on a number of factors.
Like many states, Colorado has a system in place used to calculate child support. The amount is determined in part on the gross monthly income of each parent, as well as the number of overnights with each parent. The preliminary amount is calculated using the Colorado child support guidelines which results in a child support obligation which is considered to be a rebuttable presumption. This means unless good cause exists, the court will not deviate from these guidelines.
Spousal Maintenance
Spousal maintenance issues have evolved over the last several decades, but maintenance (formerly known as spousal support or alimony) is still one of the most contentious aspects of a divorce. If maintenance is an issue in your divorce, an experienced family law attorney is essential.
